A Woman's Agency

These objects represents the many different women in the world. As seen in the media, women are portrayed as weak and vulnerable. The environment is what controls them, instead of taking control themselves. Women are also seen as powerless, submissive, and dependent.

Women should be strong and independent. That is freedom. Women should be able to make choices of their own and be whoever they want to be; whether they make choices that go against social “norm,” or against men, it’s all up to her decision. A woman’s agency should be one where she is content about it.  

   

 Before, I did not realize the messages behind how women are portray through social media. I thought it was all, “normal.” I grew up looking at women posing awkwardly and weak, which I never saw it as awkward and weak. This is what the media has done to me.   

 I chose this social injustice because I am a believer in feminism. I believe that women can and should be whoever they want to be and not by what society wants them to be. Feminism has many different definitions according to different people. One primary philosophy that I believe should be on everyone's list is agency, the ability to make your own decisions.
