Photo Assignment by Shaina Daleiden

My photo represents a different side of the impact media has on women. The pile of products shown above are all mine, and only what I have with me here at college. I do not think people think about the amount of "beauty" products they own. The inspiration for this came from the countless ads I see everyday for products that are supposed to help physical image. I also chose it because this is part of the media we never really discussed in class. We depend on these products to help enhance our appearance, which is fine, but who are we really doing it for?
In a way, this photo also represents the gender roles society sets up for us because a majority of the time, women use way more products then men. Also in stores there are clearly sections of products for boys, and sections of products for girls. The social issue represented in this picture could be many things, but the biggest thing for me is media's negative influence. We are taught from a young age by media and society we need these products to be beautiful, when it just is not true.
