The pictures I took represent gender stereotypes. Gender stereotypes start being prevalent in our lives when
we are babies. We are taught that girls play with dolls and other pink things,
and boys are taught to like the color blue and play with cars and trucks. Even
when we are adults, men are the ones to make the money, and women are to be
caregivers and cook for the family. As those children grow up, they are bullied
if they do not follow that gender stereotype, and this becomes difficult for
those that truly do not fit those gender roles. There are many people who grow
up hiding who they really are because they are afraid of what others will do or
say to them.
I chose the topic of gender
stereotypes because it is becoming a huge issue in society. There are people in
my family that truly believe that men are the ones that are strong and is the
bread winner, and that women need to be the perfect housewife by making dinner
and caring for the family. I disagree with them, which is why this topic
inspires me. I believe that people can be whom they want and do not have to
conform to these gender roles.
In the pictures I first show a man
doing business and working hard. In the second picture I show a woman cooking.
These are the gender roles that we are taught growing up. It tells us that to
be a man you are making the income, and to be a “true” woman you are to care
for the family.
